How to Go About Selecting a Dermatologist

By Carey Fonda

For today's young and beauty obsessed society, your outward appearance is what they see. Therefore, you need a good skin care regimen to make you look good, feel good about yourself. And a good dermatologist is what you need to give you the right skin treatment for your skin problems which ordinary over-the-counter creams and medicines can't seem to fix. Here are some ways to help you find a good dermatologist.

Ask referrals from your friends and family. They might have had skin problems and needed the services of a dermatologist at some point in their lives. If their experience with that dermatologist was stellar, they will readily give the referral to you. That way, you also get first hand information and see the result of the work done on them by that dermatologist.

If no one close to you can give you a good referral then the next step is to search classifieds and the internet. Every publication generally has a classified section that lists services in various categories. You can browse through daily newspapers, periodicals like magazines, journals and newsletters, and a variety of other publications to locate good dermatologists in your locality. The Internet is also an extremely good place to locate almost any service in the world.

When you find dermatologists online, be sure to type their names into a search engine and look for patient reviews. Today there are many sites that focus on doctors where patients can rate them. There are also other sites like Yelp and Google Plus who have reviews of all kinds of professionals and businesses.

Next do a Comparative study. After you come up with a list of names, you then need to shortlist them until you are down to just about a handful of options. From that list, you can further narrow down the selection by doing a comparative study of the various dermatologists in your final list. You can take into account, factors such as the number of years they have been in service, the cost of treatment, proximity and a few other factors that you might be interested in.

Once you've narrowed down your shortlist, have a one-on-one visitation with them so you can interview them thoroughly. This might prove to be costly to you so you must be sure that the one you choose has the experience, totally capable, has a good track record and makes you feel like he/she genuinely cares.
